Snowy Weekend
December 16-18
It only took a year and a half, but Kristin finally made it out to Colorado for a visit! I had a full weekend planned, but then the weather took over - it snowed on Friday and was -5° on Saturday. We ended up trying to pack as much into Friday as possible because, while it would be snowing, it wasn't supposed to get below freezing.
We started by going up to RMNP - because you can't bring a visitor to Colorado and now show off this gorgeous place. We were planning on going up to Bear Lake to walk around, but the snow was so deep and coming down so fast that we couldn't even make it to the Bierstadt Lake trailhead. We found a pull off (Storm Pass, I think?) and got out to run around and take some pictures.
From that pull off, we headed to the Fall River entrance to see if we could spot any elk (unfortunately, all we saw was the group of mule deer pictured above). We stopped on the side of the road again and had a giant snowball fight.
It was so good to have her in town for the weekend. We had snuggle time and took naps and watched Elf and just generally caught up on a year and a half of not being together every day (we lived together for 3 years, 4 if you count all the sleepovers we had in eachothers dorms freshman year). After RMNP, we went to Zoo Lights. If you've never been, I really recommend it. It was incredible! So pretty and about halfway through, it started snowing. Now, Kristin really doesn't like the cold or the snow or the dry air, but at Zoo Lights she actually looked at me and told me she was having fun - in the snow and the 20° weather. WHAT?! I would consider this trip a success.
Kristin, thank you for coming to visit me. I'm sorry the weather was so cold and that you got stranded in the airport for 14 hours. I love you.
