Weekend Adventures
Although I'd love to spend every weekend in the mountains, it just isn't feasible for us. For one thing, if we are going into RMNP via Estes Park, it's a 2 hour drive. For another, we still have stuff to set up here in the apartment (almost a month after we've moved in...I know, we're way behind). We have to be creative with what we do between hiking trips.
So we spend a lot of our weekends doing things closer to home. Something we have done the most is go to Colorado Rapids games. We also managed to score tickets to the MLS All Star game, which was absolutely incredible. MLS All Star Weekend was a great experience - we got to meet LANDON DONOVAN! Having Dicks Sporting Good's Park within a 45 minute drive is very refreshing. We love having a MLS team so close to us, so we may have already purchased season tickets for 2016...
The Denver Art Museum offers free admission(!) on the first Saturday of each month, too! So on August 1st, I dragged Logan and we wandered around for a few hours. We didn't explore all of the museum, but we were exhausted and ready for a nap so we headed home early. It's great to know that I can get into the museum for free once a month, and the exhibits were absolutely beautiful. Among my favorites? The curated tower of blankets from Denver Locals.
There's a gorgeous state park pretty close to our apartment, so one Saturday we went to explore and have a picnic! There's a giant lake where people are boating, jet-skiing, paddle boarding, etc. We found a picnic table by the water (in the shade because it was 98 degrees that day) and enjoyed a delicious lunch. We drove around a lot and were absolutely amazed by the view and by the fact that we live here, it's a pretty surreal feeling.
This weekend we went to see Ron Funches at Comedy Works (I laughed so hard I thought I was going to cry) and we have plans in September to go see Craig Ferguson there! We found an adorable downtown area and had fresh crepes as a pre-dinner dessert. I got Chocolate Lover's Strawberry and Logan got Banana Nut. Absolutely delicious!
Even though we can't make it into the mountains as often as I'd like, it's so refreshing to live in a city where, as Logan likes to say, "things happen!" We've experienced so much that we never would have gotten in southwest VA, and every weekend we feel more and more confident in our decision to move out here.
